Area Mama, a 33-year-old Nigerian crossdresser and popular TikTok personality, was tragically murdered on August 8, 2024.

In many African nations, including Nigeria, LGBTQ+ people are subjected to violence and discrimination. Despite the criminalization of LGBTQ+ identities in these regions, citizens like Area Mama deserve legal protection and justice. However, this protection was denied to him. In September 2023, Area Mama reported on his TikTok page that he had been stabbed, highlighting the threats to his life, yet no legal action was taken to ensure his safety.

Area Mama’s TikTok content was not only entertaining but also educational, providing visibility and support to crossdressers and LGBTQ+ individuals across Nigeria and Africa. His efforts served as a huge inspiration for those forced to hide their identities.
