Last weekend, I spent a wonderful afternoon with a group of queer people. It was a wonderful hangout, and I felt so grateful to be there. Even though not everyone was a friend—some were new faces—I felt a strong connection with everyone. We shared stories and experiences that brought us together.
We talked about everything: sex, dating, work and the homophobia we face every day. It wasn’t always easy, but it was important. We discussed how we need safe spaces to be ourselves and take care of our mental well-being.
In a world that sometimes feels unwelcoming, it was refreshing to be surrounded by people who understand. We laughed, shared our worries, and offered support. It reminded me how valuable our chosen family is, and how much strength we find in each other.
I left feeling lighter, more hopeful and more connected. It’s moments like these that make me thankful for the safe spaces we create together. I can’t wait for our next hangout!
