It’s hard to know what to feel about LBQ rights in Africa right now. My heart is constantly torn between this flicker of hope and sheer frustration.

Just look at Kenya. A judge there actually ruled that transgender people deserve legal recognition. How incredible is that? It’s one of those moments that fills me with so much hope—proof that when we stand together and raise our voices, we can genuinely move mountains.
But then, in almost the same breath, I read about Burkina Faso. They passed a law criminalizing homosexuality, and honestly, it felt like a gut punch. It’s devastating to know that while we’re celebrating progress in one place, others are being pushed into the shadows, their very existence deemed a crime. It just takes the wind right out of my sails.
This rollercoaster is exhausting, but weirdly, it’s what keeps me going. It reminds me that we’re all connected in this fight. Every small victory, like the one in Kenya, isn’t just a win for one country—it’s a ripple of hope for all of us. It adds up.
I hold onto the strength of our community. Whether it’s showing up at a protest, offering support to someone who’s struggling, or simply sharing our truth, every single one of us has a role. The road ahead is long, and we’ll undoubtedly face more setbacks. But we have to keep our hearts strong and hold onto each other. I really believe that a future where we can all live freely and without fear is possible. We’re going to get there.
