Nisnis: Mental Health

Welcome to the ninth issue of Nisnis, which focuses on mental health.

An intense wave of homophobia recently rocked our community. As one of our contributors said, we “had never experienced homophobia like this”. It felt so personal, and so many of us experienced mental health issues, including varying degrees of shame, depression, isolation, anger, anxiety, and a lack of trust.

Even as we continue our resilience, it is important not only to talk about our experiences but to find ways of supporting ourselves and each other in the future.

As the theme of World Mental Health Day, which will be commemorated on October 10th, reminds us, mental health is a universal human right. We hope this issue of Nisnis inspires all of us to recommit ourselves to taking care of each other and to continuing discussions around our mental health.

Thank you for reading this issue. We would also love to hear your feedback, and we can be reached at etqueerfamily@gmail.com.
