On this International Human Rights Day, we stand together as Queer Ethiopia to amplify the voices of queer Africans and advocate for justice. Every person, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, deserves to live a life free from discrimination, violence, and inequality.

We are deeply concerned about the current situation in several African countries, where anti-queer legislation is being enacted or debated. Uganda has already passed a law that criminalizes same-sex relationships, fueling discrimination and persecution. We are closely watching the developments in Ghana, where a law against queer people is currently under consideration.
These actions not only violate the fundamental human rights of queer individuals but also perpetuate harmful stigmas and contribute to a culture of fear and intolerance. We strongly condemn such legislation as it stands in stark contrast to the principles of equality, dignity, and respect.
Let us remember that human rights are universal. When one group is oppressed, it diminishes the rights and freedoms of all. We urge everyone across Africa to protect the rights of queer individuals.
Together, we can create a future where everyone can live their truth without fear, where love knows no boundaries, and where justice is a reality for all. Join us in our pursuit of justice for queer Africans.
Happy International Human Rights Day.
